Southern Circuit
Remote, untouched, and much less visited. These parks reward the traveler who doesn’t mind the distance and values seclusion over convenience.
Ruaha National Park
Vast, silent, and full of surprises. Ruaha is home to some of the largest lion populations in East Africa and a significant number of elephants.
The mix of baobabs, rocky hills, and sand rivers creates a textured landscape, and game drives here are unrushed, more like quiet observation than pursuit.
Nyerere National Park
Covering a massive area, this park blends boat safaris along the Rufiji River with traditional game drives and walking excursions.
Wildlife is abundant, but the space between sightings lets you feel the stillness of real wilderness. You’re not competing with convoys of vehicles here, just following the pace of nature.
Western Circuit
Remote, untouched, and much less visited. These parks reward the traveler who doesn’t mind the distance and values seclusion over convenience.
Katavi National Park
One of Tanzania’s least-touched wilderness areas. In the dry season, animals gather in impressive numbers around the remaining water sources, especially hippos and crocodiles.
The sense of space is vast, and you’ll likely have sightings to yourself. It’s ideal for travelers who’ve seen the classic safari and now want something quieter and wilder.
Mahale Mountains National Park
Facing Lake Tanganyika, Mahale offers one of the most intimate primate experiences in Africa, tracking wild chimpanzees through the forest. But it’s not just about the chimps.
The lake is crystal clear, and the backdrop of thick forest rising from the beach feels like something out of a different world. Reaching here takes effort, but it’s worth every step.
