Full Itinerary

Upon arrival at Chemka Hot Springs, a short check-in and orientation take place before you’re guided to the water’s edge. The name “Chemka” (Swahili for “boiling”) refers to the bubbling water that appears to boil up from underground — though the springs are refreshingly warm, not hot, and perfect for swimming.

Surrounded by fig trees and palm groves, the spring’s clear turquoise waters invite you to swim, float, or swing from the rope tied to an overhanging tree. Small fish gently nibble at your feet, and the soft, sandy bottom makes it a pleasant spot for relaxation. Whether you want to dive in or simply dip your toes and unwind in the shade, Chemka provides a peaceful contrast to the bustling city life.

Midday, enjoy a locally prepared Tanzanian lunch, often featuring favorites like rice, beans, grilled meats, and fresh fruits. There’s time to relax, explore, or socialize with other travelers, with your guide nearby to assist with anything you need.

In addition to the relaxing atmosphere, your guide will share interesting facts about the underground spring system and how the Chemka oasis is sustained by geothermal activity beneath Kilimanjaro’s foothills. If you’re lucky, you might even spot monkeys swinging through the trees nearby.

By 4:00 – 4:30 PM, you’ll begin your journey back to Arusha, taking in the last views of the countryside. Drop-off at your hotel marks the end of a rejuvenating day at one of northern Tanzania’s most beloved natural retreats.
